Join the friends of Binna Burra

Friends of Binna Burra (FOBBs) came into existence in 1984. We share a love of nature and the bush and are interested in preserving and supporting the special beauty that is Binna Burra. We are a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation. Four times a year, FOBBs meet for a weekend of work and friendship.

What does a weekend with FOBBs entail?

Most of the group arrives Friday evening or early Saturday morning.   A few elect to come earlier and fit in a Friday walk-in Lamington National Park. Following the devastating fire at Binna Burra, accommodation on site is now somewhat limited. On-site Safari tents, powered caravan sites, tent sites and Binna Burra sky lodges are available options.   Bookings for these are essential, on (07) 5533 6322 or via the Binna Burra website. The Saturday is the FOBBs main working day. There is a list of wide-ranging jobs, established with Binna Burra management and everyone is free to choose an activity, matching their preference and ability. Starting work around 8 am, we stop for morning tea and lunch before putting our tools down in the second half of the afternoon. On Saturday evening the FOBBs regroup to socialise and share a meal. Everyone brings a couple of items to be raffled. The raffles raise money towards new equipment for FOBBs.

Other Activities

On occasions, Binna Burra will have activities for which FOBBs members can volunteer outside regular working weekends. Examples are, supporting the Binna Burra library, archiving or helping out with the newly established bush fire gallery.

Keeping in touch

Newsletters are emailed at regular intervals to financial members and supporters. The newsletters include details of plans for the weekends and for other FOBBs projects and activities.

YOUR MEMBERSHIP and INVOLVEMENT or financial support will help sustain the vision by

  • encouraging young people to become involved
  • gifting to others an enduring love of nature
  • plant propagation and tree planting/removal of bushland weeds
  • stabilisation of ground to prevent erosion
  • track and signage maintenance
  • projects in response to specific requests from the lodge
  • enabling the purchase of tools and safety equipment

Through these activities, FOBBs help to maintain the unique natural environment that surrounds Binna Burra.
