One of Australia’s longest-established nature-based resorts, Binna Burra Lodge, has been accepted into the United Nations Global Compact[1], a non-binding United Nations pact to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation.

The Binna Burra Lodge membership took effect on 24 July 2019, bringing to a total of six Australian travel and leisure companies to be accepted – including Qantas, Flight Centre and Intrepid Group.

‘It’s about business being a force for good’ said Steve Noakes, Chair of the Board of Directors of Binna Burra Lodge Lmt. ‘Since the founding of Binna Burra in 1933, our company’s value system and our principles-based approach to doing business have reflected modern-day concepts of corporate sustainability expressed in the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.’

The UN Global Compact is a call to companies around the world to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals.

Binna Burra Lodge is an authentic heritage listed property offering a genuine Australian experience in nature. It is located within the Lamington National Park section of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, the most extensive area of subtropical rainforest in the world which are of international significance for science and conservation. ‘For over 100 years now, National Parks have become a key resource of Queensland, accessible and owned by the public. As it was back in the 1930s, Binna Burra continues to support low-impact public access to National Parks and for nature conservation’ said Noakes.

‘As Binna Burra has done for almost 90 years, we will continue to do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in relation to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption’ he concluded.

About Binna Burra Lodge

One of Australia’s longest-established nature-based resorts, Binna Burra Lodge was founded in 1933 by Arthur Groom and Romeo Lahey. These two pioneering conservationists shared a vision to create a place where people could stay and experience the beauty of the Lamington National Park rainforest. Through interpretive walks and educational programs, they believed more people would become committed to preserving this natural wilderness for future generations.

Nowadays the lodge provides a range of soft-top and hard-top accommodation options for all segments of the Australian and international travel markets, along with quality outdoor, adventure and educational experiences.
