SUMMARY:The ‘Anniversary Effect’
DESCRIPTION:The second anniversary of the bushfire devastation at Binna Burra Lodge. It’s two years since the heritage lodge and pioneer cabins at Binna Burra were destroyed in the Black Summer Australian bushfires. The original central building at Binna Burra was Leighton House built in Canungra in 1902 and owned by the Lahey family. In 1934 it was transported piece by piece on horseback up the track to Mt Roberts and remained the Binna Burra Lodge reception and lounge for over eight decades. It became a place to create memories for thousands of people and their families many of whom still have deep emotional connections to the ‘spirit of Binna Burra’. Early in the morning on Sunday 8 September 2019 the lodge was destroyed in the bushfires. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nOn Wednesday 8 September 2021 we’ll have a modest way for anyone wishing to join in and share their memories and feelings from this ‘anniversary effect.’ You’re welcome to come along for a campfire catch-up and chat – starts 10:30 am at Groom’s Cottage. We’ll supply complimentary scroggin (made famous at Binna Burra in decades past by Donn Groom – “a mixture of dried fruit\, nuts\, and other food eaten as a snack by hikers.”) Inside Groom’s Cottage\, we’ll have the Bushwalker’s Bar open for purchases of light food and drinks and upstairs\, our neat little Heritage Reading Room will be open. You might even plan for a pleasant walk in one of the many trails into the Lamington National Park you can access from Binna Burra and/or have your lunch at the refurbished Tea House. \nRelated:\nOne story – from Lisa and Tony Groom: Binna Burra lodge destroyed by fire: a survivor’s story
