The History of Binna Burra Mountain Lodge
One of Australia's longest-established nature-based resorts, Binna Burra Mountain Lodge was founded in 1933 by Arthur Groom and Romeo Lahey. These two pioneering conservationists shared a vision to create a place where people could stay and experience the beauty of the Lamington National Park rainforest. Through interpretive walks and educational programs, they believed more people would become committed to preserving this natural wilderness for future generations.

“As much as we travel, it is always great to get back to Queensland and probably the most enjoyable parts are the tropical and sub-tropical rainforests. Places like Lamington National Park are really tough to beat. We have walked fairly extensively throughout Australia and overseas and Lamington is the pick. Our favourite day walk is Daves Creek on the Binna Burra side of Lamington. It is only a 12km walk and it is the most botanically diverse walk in the whole park. We also love the Coomera Circuit and on the O’Reilly’s side, the Tooloona Creek walk is outstanding.”

"It is different to say Tasmania because in Queensland it is nice and warm and you don't have to worry about climatic conditions as much. Daves Creek Circuit from Binna Burra in Lamington National Park is Carl's nomination for an easy yet interesting 12km circuit.” www.queenslandwalks.com.au

"Retreat back to the bush at an eco-friendly resort - Binna Burra Mountain Lodge. An environmentally, sustainable awarding-winning lodge and an ideal base for bird watching and hiking, just 90 minutes from Brisbane.”

“The eco ideology is being preserved at Binna Burra. Arthur Groom and Romeo Lahey bought the last freehold title on the boundary of Lamington National Park to promote their nature conservation ideals.”

“Best circuit walk: Coomera Falls Walk from Binna Burra.” Phil Hammond - Brisbane Courier-Mail
“Hidden in the mountains of Lamington National Park is probably Queensland's best kept secret. About 1½ hour's drive from the beaches of the Gold Coast is Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, a beautiful rainforest guesthouse. Trekking in a cool temperature forest is nothing like the sweat and heat from walking through a dense tropical forest. Adrenalin-pumping activities like abseiling and flying fox are also organized for the more adventurous. A stay at the mountain Lodge will give you golden memories of Queensland.”
Alvin Chiang - New Paper ñ Singapore
“Situated on the top of the world high above the origins of the Coomera River, Binna Burra Mountain Lodge is on the edge of Lamington National Park and the heart of bushwalk heaven. Most meals are served in the Clifftop Dining Room, cantilevered over the edge of the Coomera Valley, where diners experience uninterrupted views over the top of the rainforest as birds of prey circle in search of their own meals and mountain mists can be close enough to touch.”
Brian Sutton - Gold Coast Daily News
“By and large, Australia doesn't do winter well – at least not to anyone born in the northern hemisphere. But winter has long been the most popular season at Binna Burra. There's something about log fires, leaf-strewn paths, clear, crisp air and perhaps a glass of port or two that remains a compulsion despite the disposable age in which we live.”
