The Coomera Terrace as a wedding ceremony venue is becoming popular with Brisbane brides. Binna Burra provides countless photo opportunities around the historic Lodge, in the native gardens, and of course dramatic views of the McPherson ranges - lush, breathtaking mountainous backdrops (and only 90 minutes from Brisbane). The only way to experience the magic is to organise a visit. Our dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator is committed to providing you with the personal & professional attention to ensure that every aspect of your special day is handled with the detail required. Binna Burra’s Wild Walks are an original adventure. Only 10 people are allowed offtrack on each walk to ensure minimum impact in these lesser travelled areas. You can only go off-track with a guide, the this happens with Binna Burra guides only four times a year! (you could be one of the lucky 40). Wild Walks often entail an abseil, and therefore it is essential that a practise 10m abseil is completed before the walk begins. Dates for upcoming Wild Walks in 2011 are: August 12 – 14 ‘Middle Ridge Traverse’; November 4—6 ‘Shipstern - Over the Edge’. While auctions ground to a halt over the Christmas-New Year period, it has been offthe- plan projects chalking up the sales. After honeymooning at Binna Burra Mountain Lodge 30 years ago, Greg and Alison Lewis couldn't resist the chance to buy a Sky Lodge apartment in the heart of the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park. The Toowoomba couple have been holidaying at Binna Burra ever since their honeymoon and spent the recent Christmas and New Year there as well. Sky Lodge project manager Tim Medhurst said 11 of the 18 apartments, which are now under construction, have been sold. The highest price achieved to date was $1.08 million for a three bedroom, dual-key apartment. He said many were buying for sentimental reasons with buyers coming mainly from Brisbane suburbs, although there was a Melbourne and Canberra buyer also in the mix. Mr Medhurst said the sales price included a furniture package. Contact Sky Lodges project manager Tim Medhurst on 0417 068682.
Our regular visitors will be pleased to know that the Clifftop Dining Room is now open for snacks and light lunches, Monday - Friday. It’s great for daytrippers who wouldn’t usually get a taste of the historic Lodge. The views are stunning - sheer densely-forested mountains as far as the eye can see. The historic dining-room is built from stone and wood with ceiling to floor windows of that view, and the Coomera Terrace is the al-fresco version. Groups are welcome.

Binna Burra celebrates the Royal Wedding William & Kate would have been proud of the efforts Binna Burra went to on 29th April with our Kate and Wills theme night. The menu in the dining room was ‘rather British’, the staff dressed in tiaras and posh frocks, a mock ceremony took place, and at the end of the night, everyone had a slice of the Royal Wedding Cake!

Albert Lyrebirds are not commonly spotted, but can be seen here in Lamington National Park. Lyrebirds call mostly during winter, and a great place to try and see one is at ‘Joella Lookout’ on the Border track, appx. 5km from Binna Burra (’Joalah’ being the aboriginal term for Lyrebird). As well as their extraordinary mimicking ability, lyrebirds are notable because of the striking beauty of the male bird's huge tail when it is fanned out in display; and also because of their courtship display. His tail resembles the musical instrument the lyre, which is how the Lyrebird got its name. Lyrebirds render with great fidelity the individual songs of other birds and the chatter of flocks of birds, and also mimic other animals, human noises, machinery of all kinds, explosions, and musical instruments. The lyrebird is capable of imitating almost any sound - not uncommonly, sounds as diverse as chainsaws, car engines, fire alarms, camera shutters, dogs barking, crying babies, and even the human voice!

The Commando makes a meal out of this years Boot Campers, with a gruelling exercise regime for 3 days and nights. Half of this years six Boot Camps are almost through, with 24 participants facing hardier challenges than ever before. Rain, hail or shine ‘there are no excuses’, and this year’s gangs are gritting their teeth through blacked-out muddy faces. There are no en-suited rooms at the Lodge for them either - it’s the military-style sleeping quarters of the Bunkhouse for these diehards. 80% of all people attending the 2011 Boot Camps are flying interstate to attend the event. Participants have come from as far as Tassie & W.A. to get a taste of what The Commando has to offer.

Keep The Scenic Rim Scenic is a non-political group standing against mining coal seam gas in the Scenic Rim region. Formed by local businesses including tourism operators, this group of concerned residents are doing all they can to be seen & heard. Coal exploration will commence in this area in 2011.  ‘Protestors on Peaks’ is being organised by Keep The Scenic Rim Scenic in association with Lock The Gate’s National Action Day on coal seam gas. On Sunday 16th October the plan is for hundreds of people to climb our peaks with their yellow triangles and huge white banners, carrying anti-CSG and coal mining messages. Protestors on Peaks is designed to be a truly different, visual, media event, which includes an aerial flyover at around 11am to capture footage for national TV news bulletins covering protests across the country. Spring time is when life begins in Lamington and a great time to be walking before the Summer rain. With more than 160km of Australia’s most diverse bush-walking tracks, there is plenty of choice to either go the distance or take a cool dip in the pools. One classic walk in Lamington National Park which departs from close to Binna Burra’s campsite is Dave’s Creek. This 12.4km graded track is very varied and extremely interesting. Wildflowers are abundant at this time of year. The walk takes in cliff-top tracks, creeks, mosses & ferns, Antarctic Beech trees, and a variety of lookouts. It’s a ‘must-do’.

It was an eye-opener for all who attended the Sky Lodge morning tea in July 2011. The weather was perfect enhancing the uninterrupted views across the Valley. Wow! You won’t find a better view. Many of the Sky Lodge owners were there to see how their Lodges are progressing. In attendance was John Brent, Mayor of the Scenic Rim, and Cathie Johnston, Tourism Development Coordinator for the Scenic Rim. Due to a run of dry weather, the buildings are on schedule and due for completion in December 2011. Binna Burra’s new accommodation will boast spectacular views, spa-baths and fire places and will attract a new market to Binna Burra. From a 1 bedroom studio to a 3 bedroom apartment, the Sky Lodges can sleep up to 10 people. If you would like to purchase one of the few remaining Sky Lodges contact Tim on 0417 068682 or if you would like to stay in a Sky Lodge call Binna Burra on 1300 246 622.
