Guests are provided with informative materials on arrival to their rooms and the education process continues throughout their stay at the Lodge.
At various times, scientists and other environment professionals are invited to present specialist lectures, discussions, and workshops to both guests and staff.
Additionally, special events such as Ecology Weekend are held throughout the year for the specific purpose of providing environmental education to the public.
Binna Burra Mountain Lodge also strives to inform guests, staff, suppliers and contractors about all of the various measures undertaken to reduce impacts, minimise energy and resource use, and reduce wastes in the day-to-day operation of the Lodge.
Interpretation is a valuable and necessary part of the education program and to maximise its values, Binna Burra management recognises that all forms of interpretation must be maintained at the highest possible levels in terms of accuracy and current practices. To ensure that this level is maintained, an interpretation plan has been developed by the Guest Activities Manager for use by both staff and guests.
The implementation of a staff-training program is in place to ensure all frontline staff has a basic understanding of:
- The natural and conservation values of the area
- The core principals of ecotourism and how this operation achieves them
- Appropriate behaviours that should be adhered to as part of their duties in order to help minimise the impact of operations
- Appropriate actions that they and customers should take to minimise environmental impacts
